Everyone needs money to survive, but more than that, they need purpose. Individuals at Alvord-Taylor are no different There are three options for those we serve: Seek competitive employment within the community, apply for one of Alvord Taylor’s positions for supported individuals to increase work skills, or volunteer within the community to identify and learn additional work skills. Our goal is help the people we support feel valued and encouraged to engage in work activities that they enjoy. Performing meaningful work in the community contributes to a quality life. The key is finding a good fit between a person’s interests and available opportunities.
We take a person-centered approach and each person makes their own choices. Our staff members are available to provide information, guide and facilitate those choices. Most of the people who participate in our vocational program don’t work full-time, but they do work that is meaningful to them.
Our goal is to have individuals employed in community businesses, while our staff provide any on the job support the person needs to be successful. This includes anything from supporting someone during a large portion of their shift to simply checking in and ensuring both the employer and employee are doing well.
